Windows Vista

Orignally believed to be an operating system 'revolution', Microsoft recently announced that Windows 'Vista' aka 'Longhorn' is now available to MSDN subscribers as a Beta 1 version. The general feel is that Vista will be much less a revolution, and more of an evolution of XP. I have been paying close attention to Longhorn development for the the past 2 1/2 years, and I hope that Vista lives up to the original hype and promises made by Microsoft that Vista would define a digital decade.

Microsoft recently announced that the commercial name for the next iteration of Windows would be 'Vista'. I wonder if this name selection has anything to do with Microsoft's close relationship with Bell. Bell's most popular line of residential telephones is the Vista line. The vista line was revolutionary with the original launch of the Vista 100, then 200, then the runaway success of the interactive screen phone Vista 350 and the current versions the Vista 390 and 480. The majority of Canadians are very familiar with 'Vista' and as such, Windows Vista is surely to conjure up memories of great technological innovation.

I also find that Paul Thurrott's http://www.winsupersite.com/ also provides Windows followers with great indepth analysis of Microsoft commercial software products. As well, for all you 'tekkies' out there check out http://channel9.msdn.com/.

Sitting @ my desk

So here I am, on my lunch break gazing out the window. My view consists of a parking lot with cars, and eglinton ave with its constant hum of motor vehicles. I have seemed to have lost some spunk...and I'm not exactly sure what it is attributed to.

Is it the corporate world? Am I becomming just another one of those dreaded 'corporate drones'? I really don't know at this point.

What I do know is the following:
Bureaucracy Sucks

And so my day continues, next task on my agenda is to complete my Objective Performance Review. I seem to be struggling with the Leadership Attributes - which is odd given that I never had a problem coming up with relevant examples of how I 'sparkled' i the past.

Maybe its because i've become dis-illusioned with this company that I was once so proud to call 'my own'.

What's wrong with this picture?

Zoom Airlines Inc.

Dear Mr(s) Unknown,

My name is Ralph A. Meiers and this is my second correspondance with your company. I would like thank you and your airline for providing me with reasonably priced air fares, a simplified online booking experience, and your great in-flight staff.

I am providing you with helpful insight on the overall operation of your company as an analyst by trade, as well as a ture insider's look at how your company deals with the creation and management of a top notch customer experience.

Below are the issues surronding a customer experience which I believe tarnishes your brand and image as a reputable and customer focused enterprise. The issues listed below pertain to Zoom Airlines Inc. flight Z411.

Pictures from Europe

This message is to apologize for not updating my site recently. I will (WILL BE) posting pictures from my trip tomorrow (Monday). I will also be posting snippets of our journal, and my letter of complaint to Zoom Airlines. Fun stuff!!

I just got back from Misty Mountain - I can't remember it ever being that hot and humid. There was absolutely NO breeze, which is startling as there is always a ncie east-west cross breeze on the mountain.

I'm glad to be back at work, I have a couple of projects that I am working on, and within a couple of weeks we will be launching Fusion 5.3 and IRIS 8.0. Very exciting.

Ta Ta for now.

Ralph
