Gay Marriage - What's the Big Deal?

I honestly think that the only people who have problems with gay marriage are those that have deep insecurities about their own sexuality.

As a Canadian I could find hundreds of other issues which should be at the top of the priority list for the Canadian public. So the definition of Marriage is changing - So what?

I have heard Canadians speak out against gay marriage - some even wanting to have a national referendum on the issue. There is a fundamental problem with that - those lobbying for gay marriage are a minority group. If the majority of Canadians were against the notion and voted, the gay minority would fall to the way side.

I agree with Mr. Paul Martin's stance - that the issue of gay marriage is about fundamental human rights as guaranteed and outlined in our charter of rights and freedoms.

Let me get you to think about this - If during the civil rights movement caucasian Americans and Canadians were given the right to decide the fate of Black Americans and Canadians - I truly do believe that the black population would still be living in a state of diminished rights and status. Get real and get with it.

Instead of bickering over fundamental human rights, lets collectively pursue the ideals of universal health care, education, and world relief efforts. Let's get past our personal stubborness and antiquated belief systems and fight for the things that are really going to make a difference in this fragile world of ours.

Religious fundamentalists who are anti-gay marriage can't help the fact that they are obliged to obey their teachings doctrines which have been instilled in them since birth. But let's face it...what makes Canada so great is the fact that there are thousands of independent races, cultures and religions, each with their own set of belief systems.

I am proud to say that although I was born and raised CATHOLIC, I openly RENOUNCE my religion. That is not to say that I don't have a belief system or faith. Just that my faith and belief system is completely contrary to those of the Catholic religion.

LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR - Is that so difficult. Love is the greatest thing in the world. It's what ties all of us together.
